2nd-5thGrade Boys

Clever Upper Elemiddle School Gym

Coach Brosius is getting ready to start his 3rd season at Clever and has compiled a record of 32-21 while here.  Coach Brosius has a passion for the game of basketball and teaching the fundamentals of the game to young players.  There is a strong emphasis on character as well and the importance of having character in the game of basketball.  Coach Brosius will try to make the game as enjoyable as possible for the boys and young men, while also emphasizing the importance of hard work for the success of a basketball program.  This one day clinic is designed to teach the fundamentals to the young men, while also allowing for some game play and a 3 on 3 tournament toward the end of the clinic.  Each player will be given a t-shirt.  We are doing this clinic at this time to help boys get prepared for their upcoming basketball season.  The Clever boys’ basketball coaching staff and high school players will be helping out with the clinic.  Proceeds from the clinic will directly go toward helping the high school boys’ basketball team with team meals on game days.

Completed registration form may be returned to your elementary teachers or to the school office.  Any questions, contact Coach Brosius at by cell phone at (636) 236-5326.  You will not be contacted prior to start of the clinic.  Everyone will start in the Upper Elementary gym for an introductory meeting, before being split up with the 2nd-3rdgraders going down to the Middle School gym and the 4th-5thgraders remaining in the Upper Elementary gym.  Everyone will meet again in the Upper Elementary gym for some final announcements at the end of the clinic so that is where parents may pick them up and drop them off.  Parents are welcome to stay.  The cost of the clinic is $20.

A messy room

If you were to walk into our room, you would think a dumpster exploded! But that is fine with me. We have begun our marble maze project. They are coming along very well! We will work on them tomorrow and again on Thursday (breaking on Wednesday for D.A.R.E.). Students are welcome to bring in more supplies that they can use on their mazes. I can't wait to see them all finished and running marbles!

Also, please ask your child if they have a lab report to finish. I still have several students, in all 3 classes, who need to finish their lab reports before the movie day on Friday! They ALL know if they have one to finish or not because their name is on the board if it is not completed!

*Movie day is Friday and marks the end of 1st quarter. All students will attend unless they have a missing assignment.

Upcoming Test Dates

We are nearing the end of our Social Studies unit over Native Americans & Explorers. I have set our test date goal as Thursday, October 9th. Some of our students will be gone on a Literature field trip and they will take it Friday when they return.

We are a couple of weeks away from our science test but my goal is to have that on Monday, October 20th.

Students will be receiving study guides for both of those tests this week & we will go over them in class.

*I am also available for tutoring after school. Anyone is welcome to stay.

Parents As Teachers

Some of you may know about the wonderful program our school offers to families with young children. My mother is the PAT Coordinator in Nixa and I know first hand how wonderful this program is. Our Parent Educators, Paula Harvey & Michelle Teague, are looking for families to add to their program. If you have a child ages 0-5, or are expecting, please contact our PAT program so they can start setting you up with home visits.

They also have a blog. Check it out!

'Selfie' Homework

I just wanted to clarify on the 'selfie' homework.

We are working on character analysis. Students are to draw a picture of themselves, or tape a small picture in the box (either is fine with me), and write a brief description about themselves. This can include but not limited to character traits that describe themselves, a problem they have had to face & how they have overcome it.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me with any questions.

Donations Please

Next week we will be talking about Newton's Laws of Motion. We will be making a marble maze to go along with those laws. To make these mazes, we need supplies. I am asking for any kind of recyclable materials that you could send to school. We will need them by next Wednesday, 10/1. Items can include but are not limited to:
*Paper towel/toilet paper tubes
*Egg Cartons
*Water Bottles
*Scrap carpet

Thank you! I'm sure all of our kids will appreciate it!

Needing a favor

Our new unit in science is over Force & Motion. We will be doing an experiment later this week & discussing the effects of gravity on distances traveled. I am looking to borrow some toy cars. I would need 5-10 of them, all similar in size. If you could loan our class some toy cars for a week I would greatly appreciate it.

Friday, September 19, 2014

Today I sent home a few tutoring slips. If I sent one home with your child, I feel that they could benefit from some after school tutoring. Please fill out the slip with your preferred day of tutoring and return it to school next week. If your child did not bring one home but would like extra help at any time, please let me know. If your child stays with me on Wednesday, bus service will be provided to any student not in walking distance.

This is not the same as the mandatory Wednesday tutoring for missing assignments, which you should have received a letter about earlier this week. My hope is that a little extra help with me can keep all 5th graders out of that mandatory tutoring.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
