Week 1

We are off to a great start! We completed the Reading & Science NWEA tests today. Tomorrow the students will begin the tests in Math & Language Arts.

Tomorrow we begin our first unit in Science over the Scientific Method. We will be learning how to form a testable hypothesis, conduct experiments & relay our data into graphs. Our tentative test date will be Thursday, September 3rd. Sometimes test dates change due to unexpected interruptions in our schedule but Thursday is what we will hope for!

We are still looking for a volunteer or two for a homeroom parent this year. Please let me know if you are interested.

Our first Friday newsletter will be coming home this Friday. This will have information from all 5th grade teachers as well as Mr. Sullivan & Mr. Fenske.

Also on Friday, we will be having our PTA Fundraiser Kickoff Assembly. Students will be bringing home the fundraiser that evening!

Welcome Back!

We had a wonderful first day in 5th grade! We started off our day with a middle school meeting with Mr. Fenske  & Mr. Sullivan. We spent some time going over the handbook, learning rules & getting to know each other.
Thank you to everyone who came to Open House last night. We had three parents sign up as Classroom Volunteers however nobody for Home Room Parent or Co-Home Room Parent. Please let me know if you are interested and I will put you down! We will have three parties this year; Halloween, Christmas & Valentines Day.

Coming up next:
Tomorrow we will be organizing & discussing our WIN binders. WIN stands for What I Need. Our WIN Time is first hour from 8:00 - 8:15. This is a time to help our students get organized & conference with individual students for what they need.

At the beginning of each unit, we will have a pre-test to determine what we need to focus the most on for that topic. Our first science pre-test is planned for Friday and we will begin our unit over the Scientific Method on Monday.

NWEA testing begins next week as well. This is the first of 3 testing sessions we will have during the school year. Science & Reading will be tested on Monday & Tuesday. Math & Language Arts will be tested on Wednesday & Thursday.
